Meet Paul Govenlock, a Registered Collaborative Family Lawyer and Mediator with an expertise in Interest Based Negotiations and a strong interest in understanding human stories and problem-solving complex issues.

Paul is a regular guy with a strong sense for equity, fairness and the central issues that matter most in his clients’ lives. His commitment to minimizing the emotional, social and economic consequences of divorce ensures that his clients’ needs are prioritized from the very first meeting to the last.

Paul’s story is one of love and despair, fear and hope. His story, much like yours, is one grounded in a search for fulfilment and honesty with himself and with the people he meets along the way.

Paul was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2012 after completing an Undergrad in Psychology at the University of Lethbridge and a Bachelor of Law at the University of Alberta. His experience practicing employment law, general litigation and real-estate law from 2012 to 2015 provided him valuable insight into the court systems and trial processes. Having seen how the litigation system works, he was convinced there had to be a better way.

And so, in the summer of 2014 Paul found his calling; the way he could help change the world around him for the better. Seated at his desk, thumbing through stacks of corporate litigation disclosure, overlooking the buzz of the city streets below, he discovered what he really wanted to be when he grew up. And now…he’s living his dream.

Paul is an advocate trained to find creative solutions to everyday problems. He wants to get to the root of his client’s legal needs. His focus is in creating outcomes that will preserve his clients’ family assets, protect their children and champion their rights, while using approaches which try to preserve important relationships for his clients.

Paul is a long-time member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, serves as a Board member for the Collaborative Divorce Association of Alberta and a Committee member on the Education Committee for the Association of Collaborative Divorce Professionals (Edmonton).

Paul loves backcountry camping and jamming on his Marine Band harmonicas. He’s an avid outdoors enthusiast who appreciates the sense of freedom and self-determination one gets when living off the land. He enjoys curling in the winter and biking in the summer. Paul is a mindful guy with an eye for relationship dynamics, equity, fairness and creating outcomes that benefit the whole family.

This is Paul’s story. What’s yours?
