Legal services have been designated an “essential service” by the Alberta Government and accordingly Long Family Law Group LLP remains available to assist clients with their needs during this health crisis, operating on a modified business basis, and meeting by Zoom, Skype, Face Time or Messenger wherever possible. We have enhanced hygiene protocols in place for times when in person attendance at the firm is necessary. We will ask you not to attend if you have been traveling or have been exposed to anyone infected with the virus. Much can be done remotely, including mediation, arbitration, negotiations etc. and we are set up to do so.

In addition to the in-office steps that we are taking to protect everyone’s health, we are also offering online mediation and arbitration services, delivered via Zoom, to address issues that may arise for you or your family during this unique time. Meet Paul Govenlock, a Collaborative Family Lawyer with an expertise in Interest Based Negotiations and a strong interest in understanding human stories and problem solving complex issues.

Paul is a regular guy with a strong sense for equity, fairness and the central issues that matter most in his clients’ lives. His commitment to minimizing the emotional, social and economic consequences of divorce ensures that his clients’ needs are prioritized from the very first meeting to the last.

Paul’s story is one of love and despair, fear and hope. His story, much like yours, is one grounded in a search for fulfilment and honesty with himself and with the people he meets along the way.

Paul was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2012 after completing an Undergrad in Psychology at the University of Lethbridge and a Bachelor of Law at the University of Alberta. His experience practicing employment law, general litigation and real-estate law from 2012 to 2015 provided him valuable insight into the court systems and trial processes. Having seen how the litigation system works, he was convinced there had to be a better way.

And so, in the summer of 2014 Paul found his calling; the way he could help change the world around him for the better. Seated at his desk, thumbing through stacks of corporate litigation disclosure, overlooking the buzz of the city streets below, he discovered what he really wanted to be when he grew up. And now…he’s living his dream.

Paul is an advocate trained to find creative solutions to everyday problems. He wants to get to the root of his client’s legal needs. His focus is in creating outcomes that will preserve his clients’ family assets, protect their children and champion their rights, while using approaches which try to preserve important relationships for his clients.

Paul loves backcountry camping and jamming on his Marine Band harmonicas. He’s an avid outdoors enthusiast who appreciates the sense of freedom and self-determination one gets when living off of the land. He enjoys curling in the winter and biking in the summer. With a love for learning and engaging with his community, Paul cherishes his time as a “Big Brother”, volunteering at the Edmonton Community Legal Clinic and baking pies for his officemates. Paul is a mindful guy with an eye for relationship dynamics, equity, fairness and above all else, baking the pie big enough that everyone can have a slice.

This is Paul’s story. What’s yours?
